Gerald Levert – G (Review)

Melding the wounded soul of Bobby Womack with the polyrhythms of a Jay-Z rhyme, R&B vet Gerald Levert spins compelling tales of love — new, betrayed (a scorching duet with Kelly Price), enduring, and out of reach — on his fetching fourth solo CD, G. As with much classic soul, his lyrics are often kitschy. But what he lacks in subtlety, he makes up for in heart. B+
