Jerzee Monét – “Most High” (Review)

Like Des’ree’s ”You Gotta Be,” Monét’s lilting debut is an inspirational hippie soul. The vocalist — who sounds like Erykah Badu crossed with Nelly Furtado — uses a popular African-American appellation for God (”most high”) to convey the importance of self-love, family values, and ending youth violence. It’s unlikely she’ll discourage crimes with ”Put down your guns/Self-respect is the best weapon,” but it’s nice to hear.
